The Tools of the Trade (and Why They Matter)
3. Hammers, Crowbars, and Time
The tools used in any attempted break-in are a crucial factor. A simple hammer might crack regular glass, but it’s unlikely to do much to 3M security glass. More specialized tools, like crowbars, sledgehammers, or even power tools, would be required to inflict serious damage. And, of course, each tool brings added noise and risk.
The thickness of the glass also plays a critical role. Thicker glass, naturally, provides greater resistance. So, a determined individual might need to upgrade their arsenal or spend significantly more time working on the window. Time, as we’ve mentioned, is the enemy of anyone trying to break in. Every second counts.
It’s not just about brute force, either. Skill and technique can also be factors. Knowing where to apply pressure, how to exploit weaknesses (if any exist), and working methodically can all increase the chances of success. But even with skill, the added time and effort make it a much less appealing target.
Ultimately, the goal of 3M security glass isn’t necessarily to be completely unbreakable, but to significantly increase the difficulty and time required for a break-in. It’s about creating a deterrent that encourages potential intruders to look for easier targets. And in that regard, it’s generally considered to be very effective.
